John Barrutia is a Principal Engineer and Principal in Charge of DC’s Industrial Markets group. He received his Electrical Engineering degree from the University of Idaho, and his MBA from Boise State University. John began his career in 1988 and is responsible for a variety of project types including water/wastewater treatment facilities, electric utility infrastructure, manufacturing and food processing facilities, power generation plants, mines, and others, and he has deep technical experience in these project types. John worked for CH2MHill for 10 years and Idaho Power for 18 years prior to joining DC Engineering in 2016.
As a veteran in the engineering profession, John understands that almost every client has specific critical success factors that make most every project unique. As such, he adapts each project approach to the individual client and project needs, and coaches his project teams to do the same. John’s experience in project execution from conception to completion is also a primary reason for his effectiveness as an engineer. His understanding of project development and contract negotiation, through financial accountability, and project closeout, are all aspects of his project management approach, which he also instills in his teams.
John grew up on a ranch in Mountain Home, which shaped his work ethic and problem-solving skills, all of which continue to serve him today.
