DC Engineering’s Board of Directors

DC Engineering’s Board of Directors (below) are not only responsible for fulfilling their roles as board members, but also help guide our management teams throughout the company.

David Cutbirth, P.E. LEED AP

David Cutbirth is the founder and President of DC Engineering based in Meridian, Idaho. David obtained his electrical engineering degree from the University of Idaho in 1993 after serving 6 years in the US Navy. He began his engineering career working for a global engineering firm, and five years later, left the big corporate arena to start DC Engineering.

From the company’s inception, David has been the driving force behind DC Engineering’s vision of contributing to the success of the client. Under his leadership, the organization has grown from a sole proprietor into a multi-disciplinary firm of approximately 200 people with offices and employees across the country. He has also been instrumental in the development of three DC Engineering subsidiaries providing products and services that extend DC’s core services offerings. Outside of the company, David has served the community in various ways, including serving on the Board of Directors of HRCI (Human Resources Certification Institute), a non-profit organization with over 130,000 members worldwide.

David and his wife Joyce have been married for over 30 years, and have two adult children and three energetic grandchildren that all live in Idaho.

Jon Goranson, P.E.

Jon Goranson is a Principal Electrical Engineer and Chief Operating Officer for DC Engineering, and he also oversees the company’s Commercial Markets portfolio. Jon attended the University of Idaho and received his electrical engineering degree from the University of Idaho in 1993.

In 1999, Jon moved his young family to the Treasure Valley and joined Dave Cutbirth as DC Engineering’s first hire. Since that time, Jon has been instrumental in the development and growth of DC Engineering. He has instilled a disciplined approach to project management and consultative design, by seeking a deep understanding of clients’ requirements before aligning team resources to execute on any given project. Jon has also been instrumental in developing DC’s Electrical Department, as well as leading the development of many of the firm’s largest and long-standing clients through exceptional and consistent project execution.

Jon is an avid tennis fan, not only as a player, but also as a coach of the Mountain View High School program where he instills the passion for the game in 70-some teenagers. He and his wife Krista have 2 adult sons, and can also be found on the ski slopes in the winter.

Tom Wolgamot, P.E., BCxA

Tom Wolgamot is a Principal Engineer and Principal in Charge of DC’s Retail Markets group. He graduated from Montana State University in 1990 with his mechanical engineering degree. Tom joined DC Engineering and founded the Missoula office in 2005 after 15 years of leading the facilities engineering team at Albertsons Inc. and entering the consulting field at GPD in Missoula.

Through his leadership, expertise, and operational background, Tom has built a multi-disciplinary team that not only delivers highly reliable and cost effective engineering solutions, but also includes Commissioning and Energy Services teams. These teams address the issues of on-going maintenance, energy, and environmental requirements. Tom is a well known leader in the refrigeration industry, driving the development and adoption of sustainable refrigeration systems which address the phase-down of environmentally harmful HFCs. In 2019, Tom led the efforts to create Refrigerant Management Solutions (RMS) a subsidiary of DC Engineering committed to helping end users navigate the regulatory and compliance matters associated with the use of refrigerants. He also serves in leadership roles on ASHRAE and IIAR Committees and regularly presents at various industry conferences.

Tom and his wife Christy have made Missoula their home for over 20 years, and can be found camping in the summer, skiing in the winter, or on road trips to visit their 2 grown children.

Jared Miller, P.E.

Jared Miller is a Principal Mechanical Engineer and leads DC Engineering’s Mechanical Department. He received his engineering degree from Utah State University in 1990. After many years in the consulting engineering field, Jared joined DC Engineering in 2005 to start the DC Mechanical Team in the Meridian ID office.

Jared has over twenty-five years of experience in design and specification of mechanical systems for commercial, industrial, and retail facilities. His pragmatic approach to applying sound engineering principles, as well as his straightforward communication style has led to a diverse and thriving team. Jared has cultivated a ‘can do’ approach with the team, providing innovative and sustainable design in support of DC Engineering’s clients across all market sectors that DC serves.

Growing up on a ranch in Idaho’s Central Mountains, Jared has an appreciation for DIY projects and everything outdoors. That sense of adventure also leads to travelling with his wife and their adult children, frequently exploring the jungles and beaches of Costa Rica.

John Barrutia, P.E.

John Barrutia is a Principal Engineer and Principal in Charge of DC’s Industrial Markets group. He received his Electrical Engineering degree from the University of Idaho, and his MBA from Boise State University. John began his career in 1988 and is responsible for a variety of project types including water/wastewater treatment facilities, electric utility infrastructure, manufacturing and food processing facilities, power generation plants, mines, and others, and he has deep technical experience in these project types. John worked for CH2MHill for 10 years and Idaho Power for 18 years prior to joining DC Engineering in 2016.

As a veteran in the engineering profession, John understands that almost every client has specific critical success factors that make most every project unique. As such, he adapts each project approach to the individual client and project needs, and coaches his project teams to do the same. John’s experience in project execution from conception to completion is also a primary reason for his effectiveness as an engineer. His understanding of project development and contract negotiation, through financial accountability, and project closeout, are all aspects of his project management approach, which he also instills in his teams.

John grew up on a ranch in Mountain Home, which shaped his work ethic and problem-solving skills, all of which continue to serve him today.

Dustin Lilya, P.E.

Dustin Lilya is a Principal Mechanical Engineer and Client & Group Lead for DC Engineering’s some of DC’s most significant clients. He received his mechanical engineering degree from the University of Idaho in 2003. Dustin came to DC Engineering in 2011 after 8+ years working in the semiconductor and supermarket industries where he was drawn to technologies and processes that create energy efficiency.

Dustin has played a critical and versatile role in DC Engineering, including establishing the company’s Energy Services efforts, and expanding his responsibilities to the acting Client Manager for the company’s project work with Walmart as well as leading the production standards team for the company’s overall retail markets work. He has a diverse background in project management, engineering design and consulting, with strong relationships with end users, OEM’s and public agencies. Mr. Lilya is actively involved with NASRC (North American Sustainable Refrigeration Council), ASHRAE, BBA Refrigeration Tech Team and DOE to help promote the use of energy efficiency in designs. He has also published technical papers and presents at various industry trade events.
